Backpacks for Success 2012 Another Success!
The Junior Welfare League of
Huntington, teamed with The Town of Huntington, has completed another great
year of Backpacks for Success. Low-income
families with school age children are invited to request free backpacks filled
with all the supplies needed for their grade level.
The Junior Welfare League handled
123 backpacks in advance and another 12 on August 21, the day the bags were
packed. With help from our “daughter”
organization, the JUNIOR Junior Welfare League, and from member’s children, the
bags were packed with just the right supplies.
The Town of Huntington donated space for everything to be packed then
distributed on the evening of August 22.
Value Drugs’ generous donation of
125 backpacks and Macy’s invaluable community grant for $1,500 allowed the
program to move forward without a hitch.
Huntington Business Products Centre gave the League a greatly reduced
rate for the purchase of the school supplies and many of our members and their
friends and family contributed with supplies, backpacks, and donations. The program was truly an example of the
community giving back to the community—a success for all involved!
